Christian Sperka is a wildlife photographer based at Thanda Private Game Reserve, Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. Over the last 11 years, Christian has traveled the world photographing animals in wild game reserves of South Africa and Namibia, the jungles of Costa Rica, in Yellowstone National Park in the USA, as well as zoos in Europe and the United States. His work has been featured in wildlife magazines, in books and in many zoo publications. He actively supports wild cat conservation, working as a partner photographer for Panthera, the world's leading organization devoted to the conservation of all wild cat species (panthera.org). From 2009 to 2012 he has worked as the official photographer and photography teacher at Nashville Zoo at Grassmere, Tennessee, USA (nashvillezoo.org). Christian is also a qualified South African field guide. He now works as specialist photography guide on Thanda Private Game Reserve in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa (thanda.com).

RELAXING

This is the view from the waterhole-deck at Thanda Safari’s Villa iZulu – While my guests were relaxing while watching the wildlife come and go a few Cape Buffalo bulls were also relaxing around the water.

IN BRIGHT DAYLIGHT

Yesterday afternoon: My first Leopard sighting for a long time. He was quite relaxed and walked in front of us in bright daylight.

PIGLET SEASON

These little ones look very funny when they move in a passel (the collective noun for pigs). As I came home yesterday evening I took this short iphone video of a ‘pig family in a hurry’.

THEY DO NOT LIKE CATS

This herd of Cape Buffalo went into alert mode when they heard Lions roaring nearby. These formidable bovines hate cats and will chase and kill them if they get a chance.

But on this occasion the two protagonists of the drama never met.

RHINO SOUNDS

Watch this short video if you want to hear what it sounds like when a young White Rhino bull gets to close to the dominant male and when his mum gives the old guy a warning not to come any closer. Not great visuals but interesting audio!

THE DAILY POST – SPIRAL-HORNED ANTELOPE

Of all the spiral-horned antelopes the Male Kudu are my favorite. These incredible creatures can jump as high as 3.5m (~12′) under stress!

THE DAILY POST – TOO MUCH ENERGY
