Below are instructions and settings to set the custom modes on a Canon EOSR6 Mark II or any other Canon EOS camera model with three custom mode settings (C1/C2/C3) for MOTION PHOTOGRAPHY. For other than the R6MII the menu items might differ slightly, but most settings are applicable to most newer EOS D (mirrored) or R (mirrorless) model.
All my cameras are set up this way and I shoot 95% of all my motion photography pictures with one of these three C mode settings. The other 5% I shoot in M (manual) mode or AV mode.
Custom Modes (based on AV)
C1 – Low and artificial light – ISO to be controlled manually (spotlight etc)
C2 – Normal light – regular movements – min 1/500sec
C3 – Bright light – fast movements – min 1/2000sec
How to do this:
- First: If you have multiple lenses then put your lens with the highest aperture setting (=smallest number / most light intake) onto your camera.
- Second: Set your camera to AV mode and open the the aperture fully (smallest number / most light intake).
- Third: Set up all MENU settings including custom buttons according the list below
- Fourth: Set up all shooting setting (Info screen/Q BUTTON) according the list below
- Fifth: Set C1/C2/C3 with the adjustments listed below – set up C2 first, C3 second, and C1 last. (To change per C-mode: ISO | White balance | AF Area | AF Mode | Min shutter speed – see below)
NOTE: Only menu settings are listed below, which have been changed from their default setting.

1-8-4 – Image review = 4sec | Disable
