iSimangaliso and St.Lucia

I spent the last few days in St. Lucia with guests from the USA. These are a few the pictures I took on game drives in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park – on both sides of the estuary – and on two boat cruises on Lake St. Lucia.

We stayed at my favorite place in town, the Serene Estate Boutique Guest House.

One more post about the reprinted Thanda Cats book …

https://sperka.info/thandacats/

Quite a few people have asked me if the Thanda Cats book could be ordered by mail.

Unfortunately, the South African Postal Service is very unreliable now and can no longer be used.

For mail orders, I will be using PostNet within South Africa and DHL outside South Africa.

Here are the book prices (including shipping, packaging, and handling) for various regions:

– South Africa – ZAR1,400

– Sub-Saharan Africa – USD135

– Europe & Middle East – EUR150

– USA, Canada, Mexico – USD165

– Rest of the World – USD190

Just let me know (via WhatsApp or email) if you would like to order a copy, and I will get in contact with you to arrange it.

The THANDA CATS are back!

Today, I was able to deliver newly printed copies of the Thanda Cats book to the curio shops at the Safari Lodge and the Tented Camp.

The book is available for sale again to our guests for R990.

For just one day …

… I went on an excursion to Umfolozi National Park. This very scenic game reserve is the modern birth place of White Rhinos.

The park was the only place where these large creatures were left by the mid-20th century. From here, White Rhinos were relocated all over South Africa after they had been declared a protected species.

All pictures in this slideshow were taken by me today!

iPhone on EyeLevel – A Dugga Boy …

…refers to mature, solitary male African buffalo who are known for their frequent mud wallowing habits. The term is thought to be derived from the Shona word “dugga,” which translates to mud.

These bulls are frequently ill-tempered and may pose a threat, particularly if agitated. They are a familiar sight on Thanda, often seen near waterholes or mud puddles.

HAPPY EASTER!

Why Easter Bunny? The “Osterhase” (Easter Hare) or “Oschter Haws” is a German tradition of an egg-laying hare who would leave colored eggs for well-behaved children. This picture shows a South African Scrub Hare.

Productive days!

Pictures from the last 14 days taken at Thanda and iSimangaliso Wetland Park. My last few weeks were very busy, but they were also very productive for wildlife photography!

Thanda Wetlands

The area behind one of the dams at Thanda has turned into a temporary wetland, after all the rain we had over the last two months.

I hope you will enjoy this short video showing its beauty with many different bird species. Some of them are aquatic birds, which have never been recorded at Thanda before.
