A minute of tranquility! At the end of a game drive I often stop at the waterhole next to Thanda House. I close my eyes for a few minutes and just listen to the sounds of nature.
I have recorded the sounds and prepared a short 1 minute ‘audio video’ for you in case you want to try this at home.

Today I did a single animal safari. I ran into a White Rhino bull who was on a territorial walk and I stayed with him for 2 hours observing his behavior.

Today I had to go on a food shopping town trip and had no time for a game drive.
But I thought you might enjoy this short isiZulu lesson from my tracker Bheki which I recorded a while ago. Bheki and I have been working together for the last 7.5 years and he has been demonstrating the special clicking sounds of the Zulu language (c, x and q) many times to our Thanda Safari guests.
Today he is demonstrating them for you! Since the beginning of the South African National Lock Down Bheki is at home with his family. I miss the game drives with my favorite wing-man!

Elephants are most impressive. A fully grown adult male will weight around 6,000kg (13,000lbs). The largest recorded specimen (in Angola 1956) was about 11,000kg (24,000lbs).
But for me the most impressive side is their intelligence. Whenever I meet them on Safari their behavior in such encounters sets them apart from all other mammals (with the exception of Primates). They are far less predictable than any other species and therefore have to be treated with a lot of respect and caution.
I met this beautiful specimen a few years ago in Namibia. And I will probably not surprise you when I tell you that I respectfully withdrew from his path 😊

We had 40mm rain last night 😊 and the roads on the reserve are still very wet and many of them are not drive-able until they have dried up. So this evening I am not going out on drive and therefore there will be no new material today.
But I thought you might enjoy the small Warthog video I recorded yesterday morning. The pig enjoyed a good scratch after its mud bath.
