The best way to view Giraffe is on horsback! The best way to view Giraffe is on horsback!

At this time of the year many animals have youngsters. The most exciting are the baby Giraffes.
Looked after by their mums they are very curious and adventurous.

A Dart, Huge Eyes and Tails Up!

I love my job! This is one of the most exciting Lion images I ever took 🙂

Thanda is very excited to send two of our young male Lions to Zimanga Private Game Reserve, near Mkuze. The two new males will meet up with two females and form Zimanga’s first ever pride of Lions.

It is a wonderful privilege to contribute to sustainable Lion conservation in this way and we wish our boys the best of luck in their new home.

This picture was taken during the capture operation on Thanda, just as one of the two young males was darted (second Lion from the left). The pride was quite surprised about the noise of the dart gun and jumped up from their kill with huge eyes and tails up!

Some rain has finally arrived. Last night we had 53mm! (~2inches). Some of our waterholes have filled up quite a bit and in a few days the place should look much greener with lots of fresh growth.

This picture was taken during the spectacular lightning show which preceded the heavy rains. We observed this amazing display as our guests had their evening drinks on top of one of Thanda’s hills.

That’s in the tree!

A Leopard. This female was feasting on the remains of an Impala kill, which she had dragged into the tree. But she lost a large part of her dinner when she dropped it and a Hyena picked it up from below the tree. When I took this picture she had only one leg left. The image was taken with a 500mm lens :-).

Quite a few of you spotted the animal. Well done!

PS: Always look for branches which grow vertically down. They are usually a tail of a Leopard 🙂
