A great day between two important days!

SA and ME

Yesterday was World Rhino Day, tomorrow is South African Heritage Day.

Well, today was the day when I got my work permit renewal for South Africa approved.

It took almost eleven month to accomplish this 🙂

So, I will be able to live and work for another five years in my favorite country. Now I am able to travel again and I am planning a trip to Europe before the end of the year and a trip to the USA in 2016.

Thanks South Africa and thanks to everyone that helped me getting this done!

Help!

WORLD RHINO DAY 2015

Support the fight for the survival of these magnificent creatures! ‪

In South Africa alone over 700 Rhinos were killed this year, that is almost three for every day …….

I love this one!

The best hour for wildlife photographers to take images is the last hour of the day. And if the bush models cooperate then the images can be very special. This young Thanda South Pride Lioness was at the right place at the right time and looking the right way!

I really enjoy these unusual sightings – remarkably uncommon 🙂

Black Rhino, Leopard, Hyena and Jackal!

I saw them twice in the last week 🙂

What a Thanda morning! After spotting a Black Rhino on the savanna we watched two Leopards feeding on an Impala kill, which was high up in a tree. And we saw a Hyena ‘stealing’ some of the meat which had dropped from the tree onto the ground below. A small Black-backed Jackal waited for his turn to get a few left-overs from the kill. A great sighting!

The picture shows one of the Leopards on the kill.

Lion vs. Rhino 0:0

I really enjoyed taking these (even if the light was not good) 🙂

It is always exciting to watch animals interact. And some of the best entertainment is provided when Lions and Rhinos meet!

The Thanda guests enjoyed it when a few White Rhinos started chasing Thanda’s North Pride cubs. It took over half an hour before the dust settled. The Rhinos went to sleep in a tight formation and the cubs withdraw into thick bush up a hillside. And it was time for us humans to retreat for dinner :-). Lions vs. Rhinos 0:0

Below are seven images from this encounter at fading light. The quality of the picture is  not great, but I think the content makes it worth wile to look at them.
