THE DAILY POST – WITH ONE LOOK

From my archives: When mum disciplined her cub because it gave her this look back. Most people would melt away and forget what just happened when subjected to these eyes, but Cheetah mums are of sterner stuff 😊

THE MORNING POST – SCHADENFREUDE!

Just after the sun had set Bheki had a bit of a laugh when a herd of Cape Buffalo walked into two Cheetah males resting next to the water. As soon as one of the Buffalos got a whiff of the cats he went into attack mode. Buffalos hate cats!

The Cheetah ran off but the commotion scared the other Buffalos and they quickly retreated in the opposite direction until the dust had settled. Eventually they came back and had their drinks.

THE EVENING POST – BIRDERS’ CHEETAH SIGHTING

Serious birders see the world slightly different from regular safari guests. This picture taken during today’s Cheetah sighting demonstrates this special mindset.

Most people will hardly recognize the Yellow-throated Longclaw passing in front of the Cheetah cub. A true birder will thoroughly enjoy the Longclaw while ignoring the Cheetah in the background 😊

Have a good night!

THE EVENING POST – CHEETAH AND THE CLEANUP CREW

Midday today I heard on the reserve radio that our two Cheetah boys had killed an Impala near Thanda House. I went out in my SUV to have a look. This is footage I took at this interesting sighting. The two males were feeding on the carcass while many scavenging birds were waiting for their turn.

Pied Crows, a Tawny Eagle, White-backed Vultures, Lapped-faced Vultures and a huge Marabou Stork were waiting for the Cheetahs to leave the remains of the Impala behind after finishing their meal. I stayed for almost an hour before I had to leave the scene for a short meeting.

When I returned thirty minutes later on my way home the Cheetah had left and the scavengers had already cleaned up most of the remains. The bush cleanup crew at work! PS: This morning’s post’s bird was a Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill.

THE EVENING POST – YAWN

This evening this Thanda Safari Cheetah male gave a good yawn before he got up to move off. Interesting fact: Large cats in general announce their intention to walk away by yawing a few times.

Have a good week!
