Dinner was getting away!

This Zebra spotted two of our male Lions just in time before it was getting to close to these formidable carnivores.

The cats were not in hunting mode – as they still had a fairly full stomach from their last meal – but their killing instinct would have taken over if the Zebra would have gotten to close.

A lucky pig!

This evening I took this picture of two young Thanda Lionesses chasing a Warthog. The pig got away and the two ladies had to continue their hunt for dinner.

4 Face – 4 Activities

These are four faces of Lions performing four different activities. Do you know what they are doing?

Mating and Roaring

After a mating session this morning some of our Lions gave a short roaring concert at Thanda Safari.

Using the carnassials!

This Lioness was using her carnassials to cut pieces out of her Zebra kill. As she did so she kept an eye on us watching her.

Keep an eye on danger!

Sometimes herbivores rather keep an eye on carnivores than running away from them. This evening a dazzle of Burchell’s Zebras were keeping an eye on our two dominant male Lions for quite a while before moving off in the opposite directions.

The Zebras never came close enough to trigger the Lions’ hunting/killing instinct, and as these larger cats were still full from a recent kill they were putting no effort into active hunting at this time.
