LOCK DOWN PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI XIII

Another rainy day! Which is very good for the environment, but not too pleasant for a game drive.

Nevertheless Mariana Venter – Thanda Safari Wildlife coordinator – and I went to the savanna in the North to check up on one of our Cheetah females and her three cubs.

After we located them using telemetry we took a short walk onto the savanna to get a better view. We spotted mum and her little ones but I was only able to get a picture of the female. The cubs were lying down and only the tips of their ears were visible.

Better luck next time!

Enjoy your evening, stay home and stay safe 😊

STAY-AT-HOME THURSDAY

A Thanda Lion mum and one of her cubs ‘posing’ for a picture!

For the first weeks of their life their mother will look after the little ones all by herself. She will only introduce them to her pride and their dad if she is confident that they will not be hurt in the introduction process, which can be very ‘Lion’ rough.

Have a good day, stay home and statt safe!

STAY-AT-HOME BIRD WEDNESDAY

Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill – also know as Mr. Banana Beak 😊

Yellow-Billed Hornbills sometimes forage co-operatively with Dwarf Mongooses, catching food that the mongooses scratch up from the ground. In return, the hornbills alert the mongooses to danger from overhead raptors.

Stay home and stay safe!

LOCK DOWN PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI XI

Today was a very windy, so I was quite surprised that we had some great sightings during this evening’s drive: White Rhinos, an African Harrier Hawk and a lot of general game (Impala, Ngala, Wildebeest).

Good night, stay home and stay safe …

LOCK DOWN PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI IX

This evenings Safari was a bit quiet. After the recent rain many roads were not drivable and most animals were still in the thick bush.

So I took the opportunity to take a short drone video of the Green Mamba 1 (my Safari vehicle).

Enjoy the ride. Good night, stay home and stay safe 😊

Rain, beautiful rain ….

Today was a very rainy day at Thanda Safari.

We are very happy about 40mm of rain, but the Green Mamba (my safari vehicle) did not play in the mud this evening 😊

So there are no game drive pictures just a beautiful bush shot.

Have a good evening, stay home and stay safe!

LOCK DOWN PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI VI

My photographic Safari this evening was cut short by a bit of rain, which is very welcome.

But before I returned to Thanda House I took this short video with my iPhone. This is a Leopard Tortoise, one of the Small Five. Can you name the other four. I will post the answer tomorrow afternoon 😊

Stay safe!

LOCK DOWN PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI V

On today’s game drive I not only used my cameras but I also got a great shots from my drone. Combined with the noise from my vehicle the herd of Cape Buffalo ignored the flying machine 😊 I got some great footage not only of the Buffalo but of a female Cheetah on a kill and of young Elephant bulls sparring.

Stay home and stay safe 😊
