THE EVENING POST – EXTRA SECURITY

As I drove past Thanda Safari’s Villa iZulu this afternoon I saw a Giraffe bull staring at the gate. He did this for a good reason as one of our Lionesses had taken position in front the entrance, for a bit of extra bush security! 😊

PS: I will be taking a bit of time off and therefore only post once per day. Normal service will be restored next Friday 😊

THE EVENING POST – A DRINK WITH MUM

This young Cape Buffalo calf had a drink with mum just as the sun was setting. For some reason – not obvious to me – these two were not with a herd but moved around by themselves. It is possible that they might have caught up with their family after they left the waterhole.

Have a good evening!

THE MORNING POST – THE LOOK

It does not happen often that I post bird pictures two days in a row, but yesterday’s Martial Eagle sighting was very special. I was really glad that as rather large mammal I was not not on the menu list of this impressive raptor.

Enjoy your day 😊

🐦THE DAILY BIRD QUIZ🐦

Since the beginning of this month I am offering a bird quiz with three birds to be identified each day 🐦

Participants receive a daily WhatsApp message with the bird pictures and can send me their IDs if they like 🐦

On the next day after the post I send the answers 🐦

The current participants seem to enjoy this very much, so I thought I send another invitation to all my followers on social media 🐦

Just send me a WhatsApp message to +27633294323 in case you would like to be included 🐦

PS: This morning’s bird was a Cape Starling

THE EVENING POST – LION’S ROAR BY ROOT

This is the second video with music from the album ‘Under the Marula Tree’ by ROOT, a local band. It features some of my pictures and videos taken at Thanda Safari.

The music is composed to symbolize African nature icons (eg sunrises, Lions, Elephants, …). This very special album is available on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Deezer for streaming and download! https://root.hearnow.com/

Enjoy the Lion’s Roar 😊

THE MORNING POST – SHAKE

Young Elephant bulls often violently shake their heads once they made up their mind to move out of the way. It may look intimidating but it is actually just a sign to announce their change of direction after they stood in front of a vehicle for a while.

This one did a particularly nice head shake 😊

THE EVENING POST – SYNCHRONIZED STARING

These two Giraffe bulls did what Giraffes do best: Staring for a long time at something in the distance. Often they focus on predators or – in this case – on other male Giraffes. This behavior is very useful for guides and trackers as following their stare often leads straight to interesting sightings.

Have a good evening 😊

THE EVENING POST – COLORFUL

Male Black-necked Agama intensify their blue color if they are excited 😊 I love the strong colors on this specimen.

Have a good week!
