MUNCHING SOUNDS

Yesterday afternoon we were looking for Elephants and found them busy munching fresh green grass in a broken dam basin. I recommend that you watch this video twice. Once with your eyes open and once with your eyes closed (to experience the sounds properly).

We stayed for a long time to observe them converting a ‘long grass field’ quietly into a nicely cut ‘sports field’ 😊

COOLING SYSTEM

The most important function of the huge Elephants’ ears is that of a cooling system. Pumping large amounts of blood through the ear’s many blood vessels, while waving the ears back and forth, helps these large creatures to stay cool 😎

ON THE MOVE

These young bulls were on the move after a refreshing mud bath. The walked by my vehicle in perfect iPhone photography distance 😊

THE DAILY POST – LET ME THROUGH

This little Elephant was on the way to water and pushed right through the forest of adult Elephant legs 😊

THE EVENING POST – ROUGH PLAY

This morning I saw from my office window that a group of Elephants made their way to the Thanda House waterhole. I joined them at the water just in time to record this – rather noisy – video.

Two young bulls played a bit rough in the water with a young calf. It called out loudly and various females reacted immediately trumpeting and running to its aid. Elephant females are not for nothing considered some of the best mums on earth.

Have a good week 😊

THE EVENING POST – BELOW EYE LEVEL

I was shopping in town today and on my way home I made short detour onto the Thanda Safari Savanna before returning to Thanda House.

I encountered this Elephant bull who patiently posed for a ‘below eye level ‘ sunset shot. I just had to open the door of my SUV and to lean down a bit to get the correct angle. Taken with my iPhone 😊
