THANKS A LOT …

… for all the kind birthday messages!

This is the month of ’round’ anniversaries for me. A few days ago I celebrated my 10th year living and working in South Africa and at Thanda Safari.

Today, with my 60th birthday, I officially join the South African pensioners’ age club. But not to worry, I do not plan to retire any time soon. I will continue to capture the beauty of the African wilderness with my camera and teach others to do the same!

PS: The picture of me hiking! was taken by my brother Michael on our recent – very enjoyable – trip to the Drakensberg Mountains.

WINTER COLORS …

… are very special. Long after the sun had set the sky was still glowing in red tones as this Giraffe passed by my vehicle (I was using the red light on the Green Mamba to illuminate the foreground).

10 TEN YEARS ON THANDA!

On 8th of June, ten years ago, I arrived at Thanda Safari. Since then I have called this incredible game reserve my home and my place of work.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to live the dream and work as Resident Wildlife Photographer on this beautiful property and I am looking forward to many more years at Thanda Safari.

STARING AT LIONS

Most prey animals produce alarm calls when they detect a predator to warn every one else to get out of the way. Not so Giraffes; they just stare at the threat for a while and often even go closer to have a good look.

After they made up their mind (and that can take a while…) they usually walk or run away from the big cats. In this picture four of them were staring at two young male Lions!
