Hidden Treasures

This afternoon – after coming back from town –  I started working through the pictures I took during my trip to Mpumalanga.

And I found a hidden treasure – the first picture is of a Grey Heron flying building material to its nest and the second is of one of its chicks. It was a very special sighting at Lake Panic – Kruger National Park – and I had forgotten all about it.

  1. Africa sure has alot of unique birds from small to large. Birds really work hard to maintain their nest and keep their chicks fed. It’s almost a 24/7 job. Great flight shot and the little guy is too cute.Do they nest in trees or near ground. Have a great one. Hope your enjoying your time off.

  2. I think we call those Blue Herons here along the TX Gulf Coast. In any event, waterbirds are my photographic specialty and favorites. The heron in flight is really nice. The chicks — well, I’ve got thousands of heron and egret chick pics, and the best that can be said is they leave little room for doubt that they are dinosaurs — kinda of strangely ugly and beautiful at the same time.
