Horses | Birds | Wildlife | Food | Beautiful Place | Pakamisa!

I spent another five very enjoyable days at Pakamisa Private Game Reserve and did quite a bit of photography work.

These are only a few of the images I took during my stay!

Photo shooting Arabian Horses,

… taking images of riders cantering on the reserve,

… capturing birds in Pakamisa’s beautiful gardens,

… working with Pakamisa’s kitchen team on pictures for new menu items,

… photographing wildlife on game drives and

…. last but not least capturing the beauty of Pakamisa itself.

Thanda (my South African work place and home) and Pakamisa are my two favorite places in Africa!

Scarlet Beauty

A few images of one of my favorite birds – Scarlet-chested Sunbird – I took them this weekend on Pakamisa.

Patience rewarded!

It took me thirty minutes to get this picture 🙂

This Common Duiker ran off into thick bush when I came around a corner on one of Pakamisa’s roads. I stopped the car, lowered the window, positioned my 500mm lens and then did not move, as the little antelope looked in my direction.

It was very suspicious of this “new thing” on the road and it took almost 40 minutes before it moved out of the really thick stuff and presented itself. I moved the camera very slowly into position and got only three shots before it decided that hanging around here was far too dangerous. It ran straight up a hill and disappeared from sight.

I like to image, which documents the shy nature of these small and extremely fast antelope.

My Great-Uncle would have been proud!

In the 1950s and 1960s my great-uncle, Werner Knecht, was a well known food photographer in Switzerland. He would have been proud to know that three of my food images were published in a South African magazine called “Urban Life’n Style”.

Pakamisa is a private game reserve in KwaZulu Natal focusing on horseback safaris. It features a five star lodge with stunning vistas and an excellent cuisine.

Looking good!

Well, you can attribute the title of this blog either to me, Badger (the horse I am riding), the Giraffe lady (with her admirer) or the fast growing Ostriches on Pakamisa :-). Have a look at all the images!

I am spending again a few of my off-days relaxing at Pakamisa (in very hot weather!)

Baccara and Bohemia

I am back from five days at Pakamisa Private Game Reserve with people-, horse-, food- and wildlife- photography – a full program!

This is one of my favorite shots from this stay: Baccara, one of Pakamisa’s Arabian mares, with her daughter Bohemia in the background. With the help and guidance from Isabella Stepski, the owner of Pakamisa, I am steadily improving my “horse photography skills”.

A light breakfast with Ostrich :-)

An Ostrich female was grazing on the Pakamisa mountain – just below the restaurant – as I had breakfast this morning. What a view and what a way to start the weekend!

The pictures were taken with my iPhone. I got caught without a camera this morning 🙂

I love Wildlife Photography but I also enjoy taking pictures of horses in action (with riders or without).
