Two male Cheetah walked in on us as we were enjoying an evening drink stop at a waterhole. After everyone got back in the vehicle the two boys got their drink while we were watching, enjoying our own drinks 😊

Today’s morning post is a bit late but I think the image compensated for the delay. One of Thanda Safari’s female Cheetah had a good look around for a tree perch. One of her three cubs joined her on the tree. The littles ones are doing very well, growing up fast 😊

I spent some time with our two Cheetah boys on the savanna. They were looking at some nearby Zebras but we had very high winds today and the two just stayed in one spot for most of the time.
Just as the sun was setting they started stalking some Wildebeest, but it was obvious that they were not serious.

Together with his coalition partner this Cheetah male was stalking Wildebeests. I was too far away with the wrong lenses ☹️ to get any usable images of the subsequent chase.
But all of us were very surprised when the two Cheetahs came running over the ridge the other way a few seconds later, being pursued by two agitated Zebras. The Cheetahs ran flat out into a nearby thicket and did not reappear for a long time. It was one of these situation when the predators better get out of the way of prey if they know what is good for them 😊
PS: Adult Zebras are too large to be prey for Cheetah but Zebra foals are very much on the menu list. Result: Angry Zebras

As promised last night here is a short video of the two Cheetah boys having a busy time analyzing all the scents left by other Cheetahs. They sound a bit out of breath for a good reason. Just before I was taking this video they were jogging for quite a while.
The snorting sound you hear at the end of the video in the background is not me 😊. It is the alarm call of some Zebras watching the Cheetah from a distance.

After over 100 days of ‘quarantine’ in a boma our Cheetah coalition was re-released onto the reserve. One of the two males had broken his leg and after the required surgery the duo had to remain in the boma for recovery.
Both cats showed a lot of energy after their release and started inspecting their territory. Scents from other Cheetahs in the area kept them very busy until after sunset. The top picture shows them in front of the same tree which was featured with another male Cheetah in this morning’s post.
Tomorrow morning I will post a short video of the two boys in their new found freedom 😊

Sometimes a bit of heights is needed to spot ones prey. This Thanda Safari male Cheetah was hunting when I caught him on camera moving in and out of a tree.

I love the high-pitched sound Cheetahs produce when they are calling one another. This is a short video of a male coalition calling for a female nearby. We were parked right next to them and I was able to get this footage with my iPhone.
