LOCK DOWN PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI XXXIII

I suggest you spend 30 seconds relaxing while watching a Lion sleeping on the savanna.

Enjoy your evening, stay home and stay safe!

LOCK DOWN PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI XXX

Today I did a little experiment and left my cameras at home. Equipped with two iPhones (Xs Max and 7+), a pair of Swarovski binoculars and an adapter to attach a phone to the binos I went onto evening safari.

And here are some of the pictures which proof that a smart phone safari can be very rewarding. If you want to know more about this you can watch my video on the topic: https://youtu.be/eLeKTRP615g

STAY-AT-HOME MONDAY

Another one of my wild cat photography favorites: A male Lion striding straight towards the camera at Thanda Safari.

Have a good week, stay home and stay safe!

STAY-AT-HOME TUESDAY

These two juvenile Lions are part of a group of six youngsters (3 females and 3 males) which have formed a new pride structure in the western part of the reserve.

Their mothers have separated themselves because they are either pregnant or have already given birth to new litters.

The two dominant males on the Thanda are not related to these youngsters. It is therefore in these young Lions’ interest – especially the males – to stay out of the way of the male coalition.

The only real constant in Lions’ family structures is the constant change!

Stay home and stay safe.

All six …

STAY-AT-HOME MAMMAL FRIDAY

I shot many hundreds Lion portraits over the last 19 years. This is one of my favorites. Being fully alert with open round eyes this young male posed properly for his headshot 😊

Have a good weekend, stay home and stay safe!

STAY-AT-HOME THURSDAY

A Thanda Lion mum and one of her cubs ‘posing’ for a picture!

For the first weeks of their life their mother will look after the little ones all by herself. She will only introduce them to her pride and their dad if she is confident that they will not be hurt in the introduction process, which can be very ‘Lion’ rough.

Have a good day, stay home and statt safe!

STAY-AT-HOME SATURDAY

Those eyes!

One of my favorite Lion portraits ever.

Have a good weekend, stay home and stay safe.

STAY-AT-HOME TUESDAY

I know that a lot of you have to stay home in this worldwide crisis. So I thought you might enjoy to receive a wildlife image every day of the week until things are back to normal.

The first stay-at-home picture (on Tuesdays/Thursdays/Saturdays) is one of my favorite images called ‘Balance of Power’.

Enjoy your evening 😊

MAMMAL FRIDAY – LIONS IN THE RAIN

Yesterday evening Thanda Safari’s male Lion coalition did not enjoy the rain but they still went for a walk to have a look for our neighbor’s male, who decided to roar in the late afternoon.

Nothing motivates a male Lion more to get active, than competition announcing itself to the world.

MAMMAL FRIDAY – SLEEPING LION

Last night I was at the right place at the right time!

I was able to take this ‘fairy tail’ picture of one of our male Lions at one of Thanda Safari’s waterholes.

An hour later the skies opened and we got 50mm of much needed rain.

When I got home I very much resembled a drowned, but happy, rat.

Enjoy your weekend
