THE DAILY POST – PERFECT LIGHT

The sun only came through for a few minutes on this overcast and rainy day but the lighting was perfect for this Giraffe image.

Have a good day!

PS: Yesterday’s bird was a Wahlberg’s Eagle 🦅

THE DAILY POST – LONG NECKS TOO SHORT

Giraffe necks are quite long and they use them efficiently for their own grooming. But looking at the overall animals their necks are too short!

Why? Because adult Giraffe have to spread their front legs apart in a very awkward and vulnerable posture to be able to drink. I have not seen any other mammal that has to do these sort of acrobatics to get a drink.

Conclusion: Their necks are too short or their legs are too long 😊

THE MORNING POST – COLORS AND CONTRAST

I took this interesting picture this morning. A combination of textures and colors.

A Weeping Boerbean Tree, a Giraffe and a Vervet Monkey 😊

THE EVENING POST

I like this sitting Giraffe shot 😊 A depth of field lesson!

THE EVENING POST – SYNCHRONIZED STARING

These two Giraffe bulls did what Giraffes do best: Staring for a long time at something in the distance. Often they focus on predators or – in this case – on other male Giraffes. This behavior is very useful for guides and trackers as following their stare often leads straight to interesting sightings.

Have a good evening 😊

THE EVENING POST – THE LEBOMBOS

As I drove back home after a photo lesson this afternoon this beautiful scenery presented itself. A Giraffe family in the foreground and the Lebombo mountains as a backdrop in beautiful winter light. Thanda at its best!

Enjoy your weekend!

PS: The pictures were taken with my iPhone.

THE MORNING POST – THE LADY WAS NOT ANUSED

Giraffe courtship can take a long time. As a female gets into estrous a male (or males) will pursue her and try to mate. But she will only submit once she is ready. Scenes like this one are quite common. But the gentleman will not give up easily.

The lady will start walking in tight circles around him and touching his sides in the process when she is good and ready.

Chatting up – Giraffe style 😊

THE MORNING POST – GOLDEN LIGHT

I love the beautiful golden light on these Giraffes just as the sun sets.

Have a good day!

THE MORNING POST – TOO CUTE

In the Zulu language the words for ‘too’ and ‘very’ must be interchangeable as most of my Zulu friends often mix them up when they speak English. They would say a meal is ‘too’ nice when they mean ‘very’ nice and a flower is ‘too’ beautiful rather than ‘very’ beautiful.

But looking at this image both terms would be quite appropriate, as this little Egyptian Gosling is just *too cute *😊.

I took these pictures yesterday evening at Thanda Safari.

THE MORNING POST – MESSY DRINKER

Giraffes wiggle their head when they finished drinking and usually spurt water around. Yesterday evening this male did a beautiful demonstration of how it is done 😊

Enjoy your day!
